World War 1 What type of War Causes Effects of World War I First Modern war. Increases in technology led stalemate and use of trench warfare. Militarism Alliances Imperialism Nationalism Spark: Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand ( most direct causes) Effects of World War I Treaty of Versailles Germany lost land, took war blame, pay cost for entire war. Austria Hungarian Empire Broken Apart.

Russian Revolution Lenin’s Promises Causes Communism Peace: Get out of the War Land: Everybody will get land. This would end serfdom. Bread: End hunger in Russia caused by inequality. Causes Major loses in World War I Had the most loses during the war. Hunger at home for Russians Czar ( or Tsar) Nicholas was a corrupt leader. People are tired of inequality. Communism Russia ( Now USSR) becomes a command economy Command Economy: Government has total control over what get produces and consumed.

Interwar Period. Fascism is on the rise because economies are down because of the great depression. Fascism Rose in Italy and Germany. It is extreme nationalism Communism is on the rise in Russia Communism is when the proletariat ( working class) overthrows the bourgeoisie( upperclass) and runs the country. Totalitarian States increase Heavy Censorship Lack of Freedom of Speech Total government control of policy Examples: Soviet Union(Stalin), Italy(Mussolini), Nazi Germany ( Hitler).

World War II Holocaust Causes During: World War II Treaty of Versailles angered Germans who wanted to regain what they lost as a result of the Treaty. This increase Militarism. Appeasement of Hitler’s illegal activity by the rest of Europe. M.I.N.T D.A.N.C.E. Genocide of Jews, Slavs, and Poles. Nazi put on trial at the Nuremburg Trials which establish human rights and crime against humanity. Creation of United Nations in order to created to keep peace and solve problems through diplomacy During: World War II Two “Theaters” where it was fought. Europe and Asia ( Pacific Ocean) Axis Powers: Germany, Japan, Italy Allied Powers: France, USSR, UK, USA, China.
