DO NOW: Why do these iPhones have different symbols with the price amount?

Objective Students will be able to (SWBAT) explain the importance of units in measurement.

A measurement tells you “how much.” A measurement includes a number AND a unit. Ex: 5 feet, 3 years, 100 pounds…

Distance and length are not the same in science. Distance: the amount of separation between two points. Length: the units used to measure distance, such as feet, inches, miles...

Time Interval: a quantity (or amount) of time. Measuring time Time Interval: a quantity (or amount) of time. We usually measure time intervals in seconds.

To find the correct measurement, you must measure multiple times. Accuracy is how close a measurement is to its accepted or “true” value. Precision describes how close together several repeated measurements or events are to one another.

Two systems of measurement The English System : used for everyday measurements in the United States. Feet, inches, pounds… Metric System (SI) — used almost everywhere else in the world! Therefore, this is used in science. It uses multiples of tens.

Conversions When we complete conversion, we use an equal sign in the middle because the amounts are EQUAL. We know that 1kg = 1000g. What happens when we have 1.5kg? We CONVERT! Lets think…. We know 1kg = 1000g we have a half (0.5) extra, so half of a 1000g is 500g. 1.5kg is 1500g Some aren’t as easy, so we use BIG/SMALL pairs and loops.
