Daily 5 During the Literacy Block, students will have an opportunity to choose from 5 literacy based activities. The students will practice these activities independently while the teacher meets with groups or individual students for guided reading, conferencing or assessments.

What is Daily 5? 1. Read to Self During Read to Self students are practicing reading skills with books of their choice on their independent reading level. 2. Work on Writing During Work on Writing students are practicing their writing skills. They are focused on their writing goal as they move through the stages of the writing process.

What is Daily 5? 3. Listen to Reading During Listen to Reading, students are listening to books on CDs or tapes or on the computer. This is important because as your child hears fluent reading, he/she will try this in their own reading. 4. Read to Someone During Read to Someone, students are practicing their reading skills with a partner. Partner reading is important because it helps students work together while building reading fluency, expression, and comprehension skills.

What is Daily 5? 5. Word Work During Word Work, students are practicing their spelling words and sight words using various materials such as magnetic tiles, alphabet stamps, play dough and white boards.

Target CogAT October 7 - October 9 Additional Screenings if necessary Further questions contact Target Teachers Mrs. Robertson or Mrs. Mawn
