OPERATING SYSTEMS

Define a Mobile Operating system ? O/S is the software platform on top of which other programs run. When you purchase a mobile device, the manufacturer will have chosen the operating system for that specific device. The operating system is responsible for determining the functions and features available on your device, such as thumbwheel, keyboards, WAP, synchronization with applications, e-mail, text messaging and more. The mobile operating system will also determine which third-party applications can be used on your device. Define a Mobile Operating system ? Additional Benefits A Symbian phone is a converged mobile device – a crossover between a PDA and a mobile phone. A Symbian phone comes with superior Personal Information Management (Contact, Calendar, To-do, Email) applications that synchronize with the customer’s desktop applications. On Symbian based phones, customers can install additional applications that are tightly integrated with the rest of the phone. Some examples are: Push email clients Document viewers / editors for Microsoft Office Instant messaging clients The additional applications can lead to significant increases in productivity or decreases in costs for the customer. Symbian is an open platform: No IT vendor lock-in – handset platform does not dictate back-end infrastructure Symbian also supports JAVA

What is java And how does that help? Java is a programming language that can run on many different computers including mobile phones. There are small Java programs, called Applets. They often run inside web browsers. This will benefit into Bank transactions and online stock exchange (share trading)
