Contact information Top of the Resume Name has larger font that the rest of the resume Font is not too large Professional email Campus or home address No hyperlinks Street address can be removed if posting online A LinkedIn URL may be included

Profile or Objective (Optional) Objective – Your employment goal. What do you want? Tailored towards the position of interest Profile – Sums up your best assets and strengths, qualifications, and experiences that qualify you for the position in 3-4 statements. Use the language of the field. Use ONET for verbiage http://www.onetcenter.org/

education Most recent school is listed first Do not list high school information Include: University, City, State May enter the degree/major in bold Enter anticipated degree date Correct Degree Name is used. Reference page 37 of the Undergraduate Catalog Can also list a minor No need to list high school information Only list a GPA > 3.0 Enter the date you will graduate with ‘anticipated’ List Majors & Minors List GPA if 3.0 or above Honors or study aboard may be included: Deans List etc. Additional certifications or technical college experiences may be listed in reverse chronological order.

Campus and community involvement Include campus co-curricular activities, community involvement, and volunteer activities. Include the role, organization name, city, state Some elect to include a bulleted list of accomplishments and activities for individual listings, particularly if the listings include skills and activities related to their field.

All bullet points & dates should line up correctly Use bullet points Do not include personal information (height, weight etc.) or photos Clear & bold headings Spell Check Complete Sentences are not required 1-2 pages is acceptable White space is O.K.! (easier to read) Do not allow a job description to be split up on 2 pages Do not include your life story! Only include experiences useful to the position of interest There is not the RIGHT format – it is personal preference

references Make sure references are listed on a separate page Utilize contacts who work within your field of interest Use the same header as your resume Ask permission to use your references

Cover letters Use standard letter format Paragraph 1: Explain who you are ,why you are writing and interested in the position (show passion and enthusiasm!)

Cover letters Paragraph 2: Sell yourself! Refer to your resume, but don’t repeat it. Write why you are perfect for this position. Bullet points can be used.
