3 So what is a résumé? A résumé summarizes a person’s educational background, work experiences, and other qualifications for employment. A well-prepared résumé should be sent along with your cover letter and/or job application.

9 Objective Statement AKA Job Objective, Objective, Career Goal, or Career Objective Purpose is to communicate the type of position you are interested in Examples Seeking a management trainee position with a specialty retailer. To obtain a position as field service representative with XYZ Software Corporation.

10 Objective Statement Suppose you want to be a company sales representative. Which of the following objective looks better? Seeking a challenging position in sales. vs. Seeking a position as a sales representative. Answer: First objective! Even thought you are applying for a job as a sales representative, but you might also want to be considered for other jobs in sales. Consider writing a more general objective.

You should always prepare for a list of References on a separate sheet of paper in case it is requested On the bottom of the résumé, put References available on request.

24 Résumé Do’s Keep résumé about one page, printed on résumé paper
Have your name in Bold, a couple of sizes larger List only one telephone number Font size is generally points and in Ariel or Times New Roman List degrees, job titles, colleges, and employees in bold font, no underlining Use action verbs, find the power word from job description! Use short, concise sentences. List responsibilities in bullets. When ing your résumé, try to send them as PDF document to preserve formatting

Do not include references Do not clutter your resume with nonessential information Do not make any grammar and spelling mistakes Do not include your GPA unless it is 3.0 or above Do not include personal information SSN, age, sex, height, weight, marital status, photograph, etc.
