Terminology Construction: Equipment: The process of building a new structure by using materials, methods and procedures on site. Equipment: Implements and tools necessary to produce constructed works.

Terminology Continued Materials: Natural resources and manufactured products used to produce constructed works. Methods: Systematic procedures and techniques used to produce constructed works. Workers: People who operate the equipment and use the materials.

Types of Construction Light Construction - The building of homes and other small buildings. These may include single-family dwellings, small apartment buildings, offices or stores.

Types of Construction Commercial Construction -The Construction of larger building that are used for commercial purposes. Commercial building construction includes larger apartment buildings and warehouses.

Types of Construction Industrial Construction -The construction of structures other then buildings that are erected for industrial purposes such as dry docks for shipbuilding, nuclear power plants, steel mills, and oil refineries.

Types of Construction Civil Construction -This construction is linked to the land and generally benefits the public such as airport runways, highways, dams, and bridges.

Universal Systems Model

Inputs of Construction

Process of Construction Processes are what people do in construction. In general, construction process can be divided into designing, managing, producing, and using.

Outputs of Construction There are three outputs of construction: structures, new knowledge and techniques, and impacts.

Feedback of Construction Feedback mechanisms are used to make sure the goal of the system is met and to control or prevent negative impacts, Feedback monitors the system and makes adjustment when necessary.
