What makes someone a bully? By definition a bully is a person who uses strength or power to harm or intimidate those who are weaker Anyone who tries to belittle someone else.

The different Types of bullies Physical bullying Verbal Bullying Relational aggression Cyberbullying Sexual bullying Prejudicial bullying

Physical bullying When kids use physical actions to try to gain power and control over their targets. Kicking Hitting Punching Slapping Shoving

Verbal Bullying These bullies use words, statements, and name-calling to gain power and control over target. Mean Words Attack other person in large group setting Call them names Talk bad about them to everyone else This can be in front of them or behind their back

Relational aggression Relational bullies try to hurt their peers or sabotage their social standing. Ostracize others from a group Spread rumors Manipulate situations Break confidences Girls are often the ones who participate in this type of bullying.

Cyber bullying When someone uses the internet, a cell phone, or other technology to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person. Posting hurtful pictures Making online threats Hurtful emails Hurtful texts The only reason these bullies act is because they are hidden behind a computer screen.

Sexual Bullying Repeated harmful and humiliating actions that targets a person sexually Comment about: appearance Attractiveness Sexual development Sexual activeness Sexting Degrade him/her sexually

Prejudicial bullying This type of bullying is based off of peoples opinions on different races, ethnicities, or sexual orientation. This type of bullying is down through all the other forms of bullying.

What can we do as Teachers? Assess bullying in our school We have to stop the problem at the source of it Engage parents and youth Create policies and rules Build a safe environment Educate students and school staff Plan assemblies to learn about how to prevent bullying Take actions into our own hands as teachers
