Zero downtime is a pre-requisite for this organisation, which supports business critical transactions and management services often on a “just in time” basis About the client A well respected Financial and Insurances Corporation. Requirement CBRE were asked to scope, design and provide a new UPS 2N installation that maintained resilience with no effect or risk to the normal operation of the data centre. The new system also needed to have improved efficiency at both full and part load and robust in managing varying supply characteristics. CBRE went to the market and received comprehensive proposals back from major UPS manufacturers. Eaton Electric produced the most cost effective and complete solution. Solution A year of planning resulted in a meticulously detailed sequencing program enabling the DC to maintain N+1 resilience throughout the installation. Over 6 week-ends the team delivered, tested and commissioned 4 new Eaton made 500kva modules, new batteries, stands and monitoring systems. Standby UPS, Generator and load banks were utilised to compliment the Acceptance Phase. Result The project was completed on time and budget. The new system is far more efficient , even at part load and has given a significant saving in running costs to the client.
