Background Universities all over the world are operating in an increasingly dynamic environment characterised by global challenges. The higher education environment faces intense competition for students, highly qualified researchers, and third-party funding. This holds true for developing countries too, where the demand for tertiary education has been skyrocketing over the last decades.

Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies (DIES) The DIES program is jointly developed by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Rector’s Conference (HRK). It offers two program components – training courses and dialogue events – that foster the competencies of academic staff and contribute to the enhancement of institutional management at universities in developing countries.

Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies (DIES) , Benefits Program pursues: a practical approach, facilitating change by means of developing the skills and competencies of individual staff members. DIES thereby aims at improving the institutional higher education management as well as aligning the higher education systems with the national and regional development goals, so as to contribute to stronger and more international universities in developing countries in the long run.

Training courses: Programme objectives – Benefits Participants from developing countries will acquire important skills in university management and implement individual reform projects as part of the multi-component course. The idea behind this is to initiate organisational change at the participants’ home universities.

DIES Training „MoI“ Why this training? (1) Today internationalization is a key factor for success in a more and more globalized market of higher education. A dense network of international contacts will help universities: - to keep up to date with the worldwide scientific community, - to have access to the latest scientific methods and findings both in research and teaching, - to establish better conditions on the teaching level - to educate the students to compete with the local and global market.

DIES Training „MoI“ Why this training? (2) The increasing worldwide competition between the institutions of higher education to attract the best students and researchers, forces the institutions to develop well organized and well funded management and administrative structures. The capacity to initiate, build up and sustain international relationships depends on available management skills and corresponding administrative structures. There is a high demand to establish and enhance central university facilities and administration in the field of internationalisation. International Office

MoI structure and learning units Duration of MoI: approx. 1,5 year 3 workshops: 2 in Hannover (10 days), 1 regional (India, Kenya, Mexico, 5 days)   dealing with topics that reference the management of ITN. PAP (Personal Action Plan): Each participant has to apply with and to work on an ITN-project (during the whole MoI), especially conceived, designed, and planned to be implemented at the participant´s university. Regular reporting to and discussion with the DIES-team. Presentation of PAP development at each workshop.

MoI - CONTENT AND STRUCTURE (1) The content of the training course “Management of Internationalisation” is organised in three modules, which bundle topics around different aspects of internationalisation: Module 1: Internationalisation - Concepts, Systems and Actors Module 2: Competences and Tasks Related to the Internationalisation of an HEI Module 3: Soft Skills Module 4: Management Skills
