Why ‘the dark knight” is the best comic book film of all time By: Sayem Khan Film Study 7th Hour

Background info Release date: July 18, 2008 Director: Christopher Nolan Set within a year after the events of Batman Begins, Batman, Lieutenant James Gordon, and new district attorney Harvey Dent successfully begin to round up the criminals that plague Gotham City until a mysterious and sadistic criminal mastermind known only as the Joker appears in Gotham, creating a new wave of chaos. Batman's struggle against the Joker becomes deeply personal, forcing him to "confront everything he believes" and improve his technology to stop him.

Opinion Statement I think that this film is the best superhero film because it contains more than just action. It has a compelling story to go along with it and it creates conversation among the audience.

Most blockbuster films tend to forget about the plot and focus on the spectacle. They focus on action scenes filled with explosions, excitement and style. “The Dark Knight” focalizes on the story and its impact – we have to care about the characters and what happens to them. REASON #1 THE STORY

As almost every script theorist says: “Make your main character’s life difficult as hell!” For a story to be interesting and compelling, the protagonist must face many obstacles. The more difficult the obstacles are, the more engaging the story will be. “The Dark Knight” is a perfect example of this logic. As the movie proceeds, Batman faces problems which even remain unsolved by the end of the movie and which lead him to discover and reveal his true character. (With the help of The Joker) Reason #2 Obstacles

In this film, acting plays a huge role into why this movie was so successful. Christian Bale (Batman) has always done a good job in his role. Heath Ledger (Joker), put his own twist on the character and turned himself into an icon. To help himself get into character, he actually kept a “Joker diary”… Reason # 3 ACTING

months before shooting began, Ledger isolated himself, writing and collaging images to help him get into character. “I sat around in a hotel room in London for about a month, locked myself away, formed a little diary and experimented with voices — it was important to try to find a somewhat iconic voice and laugh. I ended up landing more in the realm of a psychopath, someone with very little to no conscience towards his acts.” continued

COUNTER ARGUMENT TOO BORING DEVIATES FROM THE COMICS THE JOKER WAS TOO DIFFERENT COUNTER ARGUMENT

In conclusion, this film is the doubt the beast superhero film of all time. It’s action-packed, drama-filled, and memorable. I’ve watched this film a ton of times and I’ll probably watch it again soon. https://www.youtube.com/watc h?v=u8PxG5zvgOM CONCLUSION
