The Middle Colonies New York New Jersey Pennsylvania Delaware

French and Dutch settle N. America Manhattan Island becomes New Amsterdam in 1624 By 1664 New Amsterdam becomes New York.

Middle Colonies divided up Charles II gives part of the land to his brother the Duke of York. The Duke of York splits up his land in two parts, New Jersey and New York. Delaware would also come out of this land later on.

William Penn The rest of the land is given to William Penn. This would become Pennsylvania. Quakers: thought all people were equal, thus refusing to honor one person over another.
