Mood Sheet Project Title: ??????? Task: Which Controlled Assessment Task will you be do. This need to be coping into here

Design Brief and Plan The Problem Put example photographs of the problem here. E.g. example nightlights/examples of dark scary rooms. Add brief captions to the pictures explaining them! Client: I will design and manufacture my lamp for…………. Design Brief: I have been asked to design and make a ……………………………… Put the 5 W’s into full sentences. Do you have a theme you want to use? Social, moral and environmental issues – What social and moral issues will need to be considers? Will the product consider the 6R’s. Client – what are their needs, likes, dislikes Safety – what legal issues need to be considered? Existing products – what is already on the market? Aesthetics/theme - Is that a theme/style which would be suitable for this product? What inspiration can be used for this product? Function – what are the key functions of the product? Analysing the brief what will I need to find out? What problems will I have to solve? Components – what key components will the product need. Are they standard bought components? Materials/finishes – What materials and finishes would be should to use for this type of product and why? Processes/manufacturing methods – What types of processes will need to be considered to make the product? Initial Specification Must Should Could You must come up with initial specification points which are MUST, SHOULD and COULD. There should be 5 bullet points per heading and each should be justified. 1. The stool must be able to be knocked down and packaging in a box. Aim of the task Example 1. The stool should be adjustable in height This will make it suitable for a large range of customers Example 1. The stool could be made from recycled materials This will make the stool more sustainable.

Existing Product User Questionnaire You will need to find 2 existing products and complete the table. You will also what to refer back to you initial MUST, SHOULD, COULD criteria in you design brief page to see how successful the products are. Existing Product Product image and name Materials & Components Manufacturing Techniques Aesthetics Price Size Does it Function Well How well does it meet the 4 R’s Overall conclusion User Questionnaire You will need to create 5 questions to gather info about what the client wants and needs out of a tea light holder. You will need to create a table or graph to show the results of each question (you need to ask 10 people to answer) Q1. write your question here Q2. What colour scheme would you prefer? Q3. write your question here Q4. write your question here Q5. write your question here Put your graph and possible answers here. Each question must have at least 3 possible answers You need to ask potential clients to fill out the questionnaire.

Research Evaluation Factor Analysis Existing Products Specification points All sentences must start with “my product must/should”. Do not be over specific. Only write general things. Purpose/Function Quality Aesthetics/Theme e.g. “My lamp must use bright colours as the target market is children between 3-10. Bright colours will attract the target market to the lamp making it a viable commercial product. Target market User requirements Material and components requirement Manufacturing/ tools Research Evaluation Factor Analysis What were the results for what you found? Existing Products User Questionnaire

Concept Ideas These should be quick basic 3D sketches. You should come up with 10 different ideas Each sketch should be different, experimental, realistic, solve the problem and function you have been researching in your project Annotations are not needs but you may want one or two to highlight how the product works.

Design Ideas Idea 1 Idea 2 Each design must have: sketch assembly drawings, annotate materials, material properties making it suitable, finishes, positives and negatives, refer to specification and spec check box for each design Each design must show how you intend to manufacture it! What techniques and processes you will use! Each design must be numbered. Each design must have smaller thumbnail sketches showing construction Make sure you have annotated about all of these things Example sheet Specification points Purpose Aesthetics Target market Size Ergo/ anthro materials Manu Safety/ regs Enviro life cycle Social YOU MUST explain if each design meets what you have written in the specification. Use a spec check box (example on left) to tick them off if needed!

3D Modelling Final Design Photo 1 of model Photo 2 of model Why have you made a 3D model? What do you need to find out from you 3D model? Have you made any alterations when making you 3D model? This should be a 3D sketch of the final design you will make. My feedback: How successful is the design after you have modelled it? Do you need to make alterations to it? Do you need to change a component or the size of it? Results of 3D modelling: What changes do you need to make to the design? Why do you need to make this changes? Who wants this changes? How will then change make the design more successful ? Photo 1 of model Photo 2 of model

Manufacturing Diary Stage Materials Used Tools/ equipment, processes Safety Procedures How will Quality Control/ tolerance tests be carried out Reviewing quality control/ tolerance tests Manufacturing the base of the lamp MDF Metal Rule, fret saw, belt sander, glass paper, hole saw, pillar The fret saw, pillar drill and belt sander are dangerous workshop machines. When using them I wore goggles and an apron and only used them after having proper training. I made sure I had no loose items that could get caught in the belt sander or pillar drill. The hole that has been cut must be within +/- 1mm of the desired diameter and will be checked with a calliper. The base must be checked for smooth finishing that will give no splinters. The hole cut had a 21mm diameter which is +1mm larger than the desired hole, therefore the hole is reasonable in quality. The base was perfectly smooth and has no sharp edges or possible splinters.

Testing and Evaluation Specification criteria Paste original spec statements here How did you meet this specification through your design Purpose Function Performance requirement Quality My lamp is incredibly neat and well made. For example all the wood joints (comb/lap) are very precise and PVA glue has been used as adhesive. I have used materials such as pine which is a solid timber. Components Form/ aesthetics Target market User requirements Material and components requirement Construction techniques Manufacturing/ tools Improvements As a result of you testing against the spec suggestion some improvements you would make to your product. (Make sure you use sketches to show your improvements)
