Industrial Revolution Write 5 sentences on what you know about the industrial revolution. Look at the word: Industrial Industry: manufacturing in a certain field MANUFACTURING What do you need to manufacture something?

Industrial Revolution In Britain and Europe: No shortage of labour (workers) Shortage of markets (people who wanted to buy goods ) Shortage of natural resources

Colonialists looked to other countries for markets and natural resources

Resources Europe needed Human resources: * People to work in the factories 2. Capital resources: * Money to establish factories 3. Natural resources: * To supply raw materials for production

Why colonialism? Europe was rich after slave trade and several centuries of trade with Africa and Asia = no problem with capital There was no shortage of labour to work in factories = didn’t need people Shortage of raw materials! = Africa was rich in natural resources so many Europeans encouraged the colonisation of Africa so they could get hold of raw materials for factories They needed new markets! = They were producing more than they could sell, came to sell it in their colonies in Africa

Relationship? British took resources from Africa Processed it in Britain Sold processed goods (back) to Africans

Relationship?
