2  The Industrial Revolution was a switch from handmade goods in the home or small shops to machine made goods in factories.  People left their farms and headed to the big cities.

3  Where did the Industrial Revolution begin?  In England…..

4  Good Climate for textile Production  Lots of Natural Resources  Separated from the wars in Europe  Government encouraged trade  Large Population willing to relocate/migrate  Government help build roads, rails and canals  Raw materials supplied by colonies  Sold finished goods to colonies  Monopoly on New Technology

5  Pre-Industrial society was predominately farming (rural).

6  The Enclosure Movement.  Rich landowners took control of land used by poor/small farmers.  The Rich Landowners created “closed” mega farms.  These “mega farms” produced more food by less people.

7  Poor/small farmers now had no land to work, what would they do?  There was a mass migration of people to the cities.

8  New business  Main purpose – to make money  Result of the enclosure movement  Lots of freedom.
