Why are people homeless? “While circumstances can vary, the main reason people experience homelessness is because they cannot find housing they can afford. It is the scarcity of affordable housing in the United States, particularly in more urban areas where homelessness is more prevalent, that is behind their inability to acquire or maintain housing.” National Alliance to End Homelessness

Production averaged less than 75,000 new homes annually over the last 10 years, and ongoing production continues to fall far below the projected need of 180,000 additional homes annually statewide. Simultaneously, the resulting increased demand for rental housing continues to drive up rent costs, exacerbated by a lack of rental housing supply. Amount is sustainable through 18/19. Funding for 18/19 could be higher, depending on outcome of grant submissions.
