Teams 2nd & 3rd Grade Team Book levels range from 2.7-5.1 (Independent Readers) A team can consist of a maximum of 12 players with 6 per round.

A candidate for the team needs to be able to . . . Read independently several books a week Collaborate with other students in high pressure situations Come to the library to exchange titles as needed (1 book at a time) Remember significant details from the text Memorize the author and title as noted on the list Come to morning practice sessions from November through February Have the approval of their teacher and parents for participation

AR Testing AR is up and running so testing has begun If students have tested on a book in past school years, they will need to let me know so I can delete these old scores Goal is to get a 100% on each test

Timeline September: Complete Title & Author Test September-October: Read books from the list and take an AR test on each book with a 100% score October: Read 6 books and take AR Test November: Team Tryout Battle December: Complete reading list December: Team announced

Checking out Books We have ordered copies of the books on the list When students need a book, they simply come to the library to get one. BOB titles are only going to be available to those students whose parents are here at the meeting. One book at a time so all students can use them. Copies of these books may also be available at the Public Library. Several titles are available on the Kindle site.

Battles consist of . . . Rounds of alternating questions team against team Students answer a question with a title and author Team A is asked a question for 3 points, if they don’t get it right Team B may steal for 2 points 20 second time limit to collaborate with other team members on first question, 10 seconds on the steal Team B then goes with the same steal option available to Team A Next set of teams comes up Process is repeated for the day

Stage Setting

(Not comprehension; detail oriented) A typical question . . . Q: In which book does the main character have to eat his experiment in front of the tv with his family and friends? A: Beetles Lightly Toasted by Phyllis Naylor (Not comprehension; detail oriented)

Questions: The moderator will read the question once. The question may be repeated once with the clock running. The moderator will say the team member's name, state the question, and repeat the team member's name to start the time. The person answering the question may confer with team once the moderator states the team member’s name a second time.
