Electric Circuits (12.2)

CURRENT ELECTRICITY CURRENT ELECTRICITY is the controlled movement or flow of electric charges along a conductor. An ELECTRIC CIRCUIT is a controlled path for the flow of electric current. There are 4 main components to most circuits: energy source, load, conducting wires, switch.

Electric Circuits energy source switch load conducting wires

4 Components of Electric Circuits Source of electrical energy

4 Components of Electric Circuits 1. Source of electrical energy (note: a battery is a combination of cells) Examples Symbols dry cells batteries solar cells 1 cell 3 cells

4 Components of Electric Circuits 2. Electrical Load - converts electrical energy into another form of energy

4 Components of Electric Circuits 2. Electrical Load - converts electrical energy into another form of energy (note: a resistor can be used to represent any one of many loads) Examples Symbols light bulb motor resistor

4 Components of Electric Circuits 3. Conductors - pathway for electron flow

4 Components of Electric Circuits 3. Conductors - pathway for electron flow Examples Symbols wires

4 Components of Electric Circuits 4. Switch - controls current flow
