Transitions within paragraphs— Transitions within paragraphs act as cues by helping readers to anticipate what is coming before they read it. Within paragraphs, transitions tend to be single words or short phrases. Similarly, Transitions between paragraphs …

Transitions between paragraphs Help the reader anticipate or comprehend the new information that you wish to present. Transitions between paragraphs—the content of one leads logically to the next, the transition will highlight a relationship that already exists by summarizing the previous paragraph and suggesting something of the content of the paragraph that follows. A transition between paragraphs can be a word or two (however, for example, similarly), a phrase, or a sentence. Transitions can be at the end of the first paragraph, at the beginning of the second paragraph, or in both places.

The preacher's maxim is one of the most effective formulas to follow for argument papers: Tell what you're going to tell them (introduction). Tell them (body). Tell them what you told them (conclusion).

Your conclusion should be anywhere from 5 to 7 sentences long Your conclusion should be anywhere from 5 to 7 sentences long. Any less, and you probably haven't summarized your points enough; any more, and you're probably rambling on a bit too much. Brevity is the soul of wit.

Conclusions Try to sound authoritative on your subject. For example, instead of saying "That's why I think that Abraham Lincoln was the best American President in the 19th century," say "That's why Abraham Lincoln was the best American President in the 19th century."

Conclusions Let the Reader know by using some kind of transition… In conclusion, To summarize, etc (Honestly though … I try to avoid this) Sometimes, the first sentence of the conclusion restates the thesis (in a different way) Do not introduce new information, it should just help the reader reconsider the main ideas you have given in your essay.

End with a flourish.  Your last sentence should be well-written (better written than most), to the point, and provocative.  The final sentence is often determined by what type of essay you are writing. Sometimes it is a suggestion, opinion or prediction but in your persuasive essay you should say the thesis has been discussed with strong, persuasive facts, that the issue is now clear. e.g. Any reader would agree that bilingual education is an excellent educational opportunity. Or maybe make a Call for action / emotion

Don’t Use quotes, statistics that should be in the body. Introduce new evidence or argument Making sentimental, emotional appeals that are out of character with the rest of the paper
