The 6th Nottingham Acute Kidney Injury Course Acute kidney injury (AKI) is common, harmful and costly. It is often preventable through greater awareness of risk factors and may be reversible with early detection and prompt management. With greater knowledge and understanding of AKI, significant improvements in patient care and outcomes can be achieved. This course aims to give the clinician a comprehensive and up to date overview of the prevention, early detection and management of AKI. It includes an overview of current staging systems, optimal fluid management, medical management of complications, imaging and AKI in special circumstances. The course combines teaching sessions with small group interactive case based discussion. Speakers are specialists with experience in acute medicine, nephrology , intensive care and radiology. The course, established in 2013 and endorsed by the UK Renal Association, is aimed at trainees and consultants in acute and general medicine, all acute medical specialties, nephrology and intensive care. It is also appropriate for AHPs such as specialist nurses in AKI outreach teams and CCOT.
