SAP Terminology & Structure Work Process Dispatcher: Manages resources on SAP system - controls user queue (1 per SAP instance) Dialog: Communication and interface with end user Background: Batch processes Spool: Formats data for printing Enqueue: Manages locks so updates to DB can happen in synchronized manner even though physically it is asynchronous Update: Executes changes to data base (Add, Change, Delete) Message Server: Exchanges data, routes internal messages Gateway Server: Exchanges large amounts of data between application servers (not applicable to our landscape) 9/18/2018 SAP Terms: lecture 3
