Clemson University Staff Development Program Information Session

Why apply? “The SDP gave me the motivation and purpose to take on new challenges.” “Participation in this program is going to open doors I have been knocking on for awhile.” “I will continue to represent the University in a positive, collaborative and learning manner.” “I will continue to volunteer my time and efforts to help make a difference in others’ lives.“ “I became aware of service and learning opportunities and I will continue to take advantage of those. ” “SDP allowed me to strengthen existing working relationships and develop new relationships.”

Am I eligible? In a full-time permanent position, at least 30 hours per week for at least three years Not currently receiving retirement benefits In current position number at least one year, remain in that position number until SDP completion At least a “Successful” on past two EPMS reviews, no written disciplinary actions through HR within the past year No permanent salary increase totaling 10 percent or greater within the last year Not at the top of pay band if the 10% increase places above pay band, only receive the the portion that would bring salary to the top of current pay band

Program requirements A minimum of 150 documented contact hours: Professional Development – a minimum of 74 hours University/Community-Related Service – a minimum of 40 hours Personal Development – a minimum of 26 hours Core Curriculum – a minimum of 10 credits

Program requirements Continue to fulfill regular job duties Complete hours on your own time Documentation of hours 15 hours of volunteer service required from graduates 50 % of the salary increase received from completion of the first year of the two-year program will be forfeited if the volunteer service component is not completed Selection of applicants is based on the quality of applications - no grievance

Timeline for 2018-19 The projected timeline is subject to change. March 20 – Application period opens March 20 & April 5 – Information sessions April 30 - Completed applications due (original application must be delivered in person or via mail to 801 University Union) June 8 - Participants announced Late June - Orientation sessions conducted for participants and supervisors July 1 – Proposed date for new participants to begin program

Supervisor discussion Take your ideas to your supervisor for discussion. What professional goals does he or she see as most valuable to you, the department and the University? Use the feedback from your supervisor to make any needed adjustments to your ideas. Provide a copy of the Supervisor FAQ to your supervisor for review

A few things to consider… Goals cannot be changed Proposed goals and activities must reflect that the applicant has performed detailed research on opportunities and availability Activities should be diverse Activities should push participants out of their ‘comfort zone’ There should be a statement of how you will strengthen your engagement and bond with the University through achieving your proposed goals/activities
