Alphabet of weather By: Kayla Brown

Autumn Autumn is another word for fall! We know that it is one of the four seasons of the year!

Blue skies A blue sky can appear during any time of the year! When there are no clouds in the sky, and it is bright blue, it’s a blue sky day!

clouds We know there are three different types of clouds! Cloud can bring rain, snow, or even just some shade!

drought A drought is when there is no rain or little rain for a very long time!

Emergency radio An emergency radio is used to help warn people of bad weather! It runs on batteries so it does not need to use electricity!

fog Thick clouds of tiny water droplets that look like really low clouds that are on the Earth! Sometimes they can be so thick that it’s hard to see through them!

gale Gale is an incredibly strong force of wind!

hail Hail is pellets of frozen rain that fall in storms!

ice Ice is frozen water! It is the solid form of water!

Jet stream Air currents that encircle the globe!

kelvin Kelvin is a type of temperature measurement!

lightning A bolt of high voltage that happens between the clouds and the ground!

mist Tiny clouds of water droplets that look like fog but it is like a light rain!

National weather service (nws) The NWS is a service of the United States government that warns the people of the United States of any type of dangerous weather!

overcast When the sky is ‘covered’ in gray clouds, it is called an overcast!

Partly cloudy When the sky is mostly sunny, but there are a few clouds, it is called a partly cloudy sky!

quick Sometimes a storm moves quickly, and can come faster than expected!

rain When moisture condensates, it can fall in separate droplets that is called rain!

snow Water vapor that freezes into small ice crystals, and falls in little white flakes!

temperature Temperature is a degree or measure of how much heat is in the air. Sometimes, there is not much heat in the air, and it is very cold outside!

umbrella An umbrella is a device that works as a canopy to keep us dry from the rain, snow, or sometimes even sunshine!

vapor Vapor is a substance diffused or suspended in the air, normally in a solid or liquid form.

weather Weather can be so many different things. It can be sunny, rainy, snowy, stormy. It can be hot or cold! Weather changes every day!

X-rays When we think of an x-ray, we usually think of what we do at the hospital. We never think about how the weather stations use x-rays to figure out what type of weather is coming in the future.

year A year is a 365 day period. Sometimes there are 366 days when there is a leap year! Every year there are four seasons, and within those seasons the weather changes a lot!

zone A climatic zone separates the globe into different zones that are different climates.
