Looking at living things LIFE PROCESSES Looking at living things

Living Things Something is only alive if it is made up of cells AND does all 7 processes.

THE SEVEN LIFE PROCESSES

1 All living things Move

Animals move to get food and away from predators. Plants turn towards the light and their roots grow down into the soil.

All living things Reproduce 2 All living things Reproduce

This is the ability to produce offspring and make more of a species Animals have babies. New plants grow from seeds.

All living things are Sensitive 3 All living things are Sensitive

All living things respond to changes in their surroundings All living things respond to changes in their surroundings. They respond/react to their environment. Ex. Plants grow towards the light. Ex. People react to the temperature around them.

All living things need Nutrition 4 All living things need Nutrition

Animals need food for energy. Plants need minerals from the soil. Green plants make their own food using sunlight. Through a process called photosynthesis.

All living things Excrete 5 All living things Excrete

Example: Gong to the bathroom, sweating, exhaling Getting rid of waste Example: Gong to the bathroom, sweating, exhaling Plants get rid of oxygen gas and water. Animals get rid of waste through sweating, crying, and using the bathroom.

All living things Respire (Respiration) 6 All living things Respire (Respiration)

Exchange of gases with the environment Example: Breathing and photosynthesis

All living things Grow and develope 7 All living things Grow and develope

Growing larger and stronger into adult size Babies grow into adults. Seedlings grow into plants.

The Seven Life Processes 1 Move 2 Reproduce 3 Sensitive 4 Nutrition 5 Excrete 6 Respire 7 Grow

Use the first letter from each process to help you remember them. Move Reproduce Sensitive Nutrition Excrete Respire Grow They spell MRS NERG

This is MRS NERG ! Can you remember what each of the letters in her name stand for ?
