Disruptive behavior is defined as any behaviors that hamper the ability of instructors to teach or students to learn. Disruptive behavior in the classroom can negatively affect the classroom environment. as well as the educational experience for students enrolled in the course.

Disruptive Behavior Characteristics ■ Verbal and physical aggression ■ Tantrums ■ Destruction to property ■ Lying ■ Stealing ■ Non compliance ■ Defiance towards authority figures and classroom rules

Causes of Disruptive Behavior Problems in Childhood ■ No single cause for any disorder ■ No single treatment for any disorder

Attention deficit/ hyperactive disorder ■ is a brain disorder marked by an ongoing pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development.

ADHD Characteristics : ■ Inattention mean s a person wanders off task, lacks persistence, has difficulty sustaining focus, and is disorganized; and these problems are not due to defiance or lack of comprehension. ■ Hyperactivity me ans a person seems to move about constantly, including in situations in which it is not appropriate; or excessively fidgets, taps, or talks. ■ Impulsivity mean s a person makes hasty actions that occur in the moment without first thinking about them and that may have high potential for harm.

Oppositional Defiant Disorder -A child with ODD may argue frequently with adults; lose his temper easily; refuse to follow rules; blame others for his own mistakes; deliberately annoy others; and otherwise behave in angry, resentful, and vindictive ways.

Conduct Disorder ■ is a repetitive and persistent pattern of behavior in children and adolescents in which the rights of others or basic social rules are violated.

Behaviors characteristic of conduct disorder include:  Aggressive behavior that causes or threatens harm to other people or animals, such as bullying or intimidating others, often initiating physical fights, or being physically cruel to animals.  Deceitfulness or theft, such as breaking into someone’s house or car, or lying or “conning” others.  Serious rule violations, such as staying out at night when prohibited, running away from home overnight, or often being truant from school.
