Course Goals The goal of this workbook is to provide you with the knowledge and practice to accurately establish rules within the Banner Finance system for processing of documents After discussing the course goals, discuss the use of the associated workbook and how it will assist them during training and after they return to their institutions.

Agenda Overview Set up Question and Answer Discuss how the course will be structured…first going over the Set up (rule and validation forms) that are required for recruitment and application training. Followed by the discussion of the Day-to-Day procedures that are required to handle recruitment and application training.

Overview Understanding the components of Finance rule codes will increase understanding of the Finance ledger posting. All the Finance rule codes necessary to post all documents are delivered with the Banner software. Adding custom rule codes will increase flexibility and control of processing transactions.

Set up Viewing Existing Rule Classes Rules Maintenance form (FTMRUCL) Used to define transaction processing rules, processes, and edits which determine how Banner Finance processes your transactions Access Banner and enter data on form.

Set up Creating a New Rule Class Rules Maintenance form (FTMRUCL) Used to create a new rule class Access Banner and enter data on form.

Set up Adding Edit Rules to a Rule Class Rules Maintenance form (FTMRUCL) Used to limit what actions a user can perform to adjust his/her budget using your new rule class Access Banner and enter data on form.

Set up Adding Process Codes to a Rule Class Rules Maintenance form (FTMRUCL) Process codes are the ‘guts’ of the rule class Supplies it with process codes before it will perform any function at all Access Banner and enter data on form.

Set up Adding Posting Modifiers to a Rule Class Posting modifiers allow you to assign FOAPAL overrides to the posting actions performed by the process codes of your rule class Access Banner and enter data on form.

Set up Review What Banner form do you use to view rule classes? How do you create a new rule class code? How can you limit the length of time a rule class is in effect? How do you specify that you want a rule class to allow zero amount posting? How do you enter a rule for comparing values? Solicit answers from above questions from audience.
