3 What is the Banner Project ? An initiative to upgrade Vincennes University’s existing core administrative computer systems, referred today as the (Z, Plus, FRS, HRS, SIS, FAMS, ADS) systems to Banner. This new system will be an integrated solution enabling broader access and increased availability to the entire VU community. 4 Project Definition… A PDD (Project Definition Document) was developed by key VU management and staff in consultation with Sungard SCT during meetings here at VU on July 23 rd and 24 th of 2004. This document was reviewed by this team and key individuals before sign-off by the Executive Steering Committee and Sungard SCT.

6 Project Duration… The project officially began on June 18, 2004 and is scheduled for completion January 2007 with the conclusion of the project no later than June 18, 2007.

9 What is Banner? Banner is a web application –Available nearly 24/7/365 via a web browser for access by students, faculty and staff –Integrated application with one database –Point and click (GUI) interface –Uses SQL (structured query language) –Adhoc Reporting software called Discover

10 Some Terminiology… Forms –“Screens” that display data taken from the one record maintained in system. –Example: One Local Address is displayed on a number of different forms in Banner. Tables –Lists maintained in Banner and used to enter data. (Similar to a data element) –Example: Hold Types – there are specific hold types entered on the validation table which can be assigned to a record. Rules –Rules are entered on rule forms, which are made up of data elements which have been defined in validation tables. –Rules are an action. –Example: B holds prevent transcript production & future registrations.

13 Our Approach… Implement non-disruptive to the VU community. In a “vanilla” mode, with no programming modifications. Adjusting business processes to take advantage of new functionality, if feasible
