A Review of the Dewey decimal system By Mrs. S. Corpus

What is the Dewey Decimal System? It is a system created by Melvil Dewey in 1876 as a way to organize the books on library shelves and provide an easy way to return them to their proper location! -Definition taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dewey_Decimal_Classification

Classifications Defined as Found in our Library Fiction (FIC) – a work that is made up; not factual Non-fiction (000-999) – works that are true and based on facts Biography (B) – books that are based on actual people Story Collection (SC)- collections of stories that are tied together by the same theme

Non-Fiction (000-299) General Works, Philosophy & Religion

Non-Fiction (300-499) Social Science and Language

Non-Fiction (500-699) Science & Applied Science

Non-Fiction (700-899) Fine Arts, Sports and Literature

Non-Fiction (900-999) History & Geography

Biography

Story Collection – books that have a collection of short stories written by one author or multiple authors

Reference & Spanish Sections… Cuellar Middle School’s Library reference section is arranged very similar to the non-fiction section, except that these books are not allowed to be checked out except for overnight use only. We also have a section of books that are written in Spanish; anyone is free to check out of books from this section as well.
