Fixed Pulley An attached simple machine that allows a rope to lift an object by changing the direction of the force pulling on it.

Moveable Pulley A pulley that has two lengths of rope passing through it to be attached higher up. Changes the force required to lift an object.

Load The weight (downward force) of the object being lifted.

Effort The amount of force required to move an object.

Work The change in position of on object by a force

Inclined Plane A ramp that allows an object to be pushed up it to achieve a certain height.

Friction A resistance force that is opposite the motion of an object.
