Benefits Young adults coming out of Foster Care have such limited options. Many researchers have extended the age of adolescence to 26. There is an opportunity for guidance and emotional support. Supportive Housing makes living in NYC affordable. Leaving Foster Care is traumatic. Prevents young people from entering shelters, couch surfing, being arrested when discharge plans fall through.
Learning Curve Young adults present a unique challenge. Former Foster Care youth are even more unique. Supportive Housing is different than Child Welfare. Adolescents learn by doing. Foster Care youth do not have a sense of home. Adolescence is when mental illness often begins to present itself.
