Greek Legends by: Maddie Mcfarland

Prometheus Prometheus was one of the Titans. He was the god of fire, He was the son of Lapetus, who also was a Titan. Prometheus tried to trick Zeus into eating bones and fat instead of the best meat. Zeus took away fire so that all of mankind would have to eat raw meat forever. Prometheus stole the fire back, and Zeus punished him and for his punishment he took Prometheus as far away as he could and chained him to a rock and Zeus sent an eagle to eat the Titans liver. To make it worse his liver kept growing back overnight and the eagle returned each day to torment him.

Hera Hera (Roman name Juno) was the wife of Zeus. She was the Goddess of marriage and birth, and she was the Queen of the Olympians. Hera was very powerful, the women of Greece prayed to her for protection. She also had the power over the skies and could bless the people with clear skies or curse them with storms. When Hera and married Zeus, he had already had a son Heracles. Hera hated Heracles and she tried to kill him as a baby. She put serpent snakes in his crib, but Hercules killed the snakes. Later she caused him to go mad and kill his wife and children. For a punishment for killing his family, he was forced to preform the Twelve Labors. Hera made these Labors very difficult so that he would be killed.

Theseus Athens is forced to ship off young to Crete every few years. There young boys and girls are devoured by the man-eating, a monster with the head of a bull and the body of a man, Minotaur. Theseus, the prince of Athens, decided to put a stop to this, and sails off to kill the beast. Theseus promises his father, that he’ll change the black sails to white when he returns from his journey to show that he survived. Theseus slays the beast with the help of the beautiful Cretan princess, Ariadne. When he is coming home he forgot to change the sails white. When his father sees the black-sailed ship approaching, he assumes that Theseus is dead. Theseus becomes the King of Athens, but loses his father in the process.
