Identifying Risk to Children

Identifying Risk to Children Police officers need to have a full understanding of identifying, assessing and investigating child abuse incidents and when dealing with these incidents take appropriate and positive action.

Identifying Risk to Children Antisocial behaviour Domestic abuse incidents Children - victims of, witnessing or committing crimes Burglary Drug warrants Noisy parties Concern from members of the public Missing Honour abuse Medical assistance Child Sexual Exploitation Reports from schools to Safer Schools Officers

Identifying Risk to Children Officers will submit a C39d which is submitted electronically Incident details, including source of information.   Was the child present and has the child been seen? How did the child appear? Record the family set up/situation Eg state of the property, any drug connections / alcohol misuse etc Is there a risk to the child’s welfare? What action/s did you take? Eg arrest, police protection, etc
