The English Pioneers The English pioneers sailed over the vast sees in reason to escape the rule of Queen Elizabeth l. They left England in search of land of opportunities where there was no monarchy. Times were hard but the long voyage was worth it because in 1607 they finally arrived and founded Jamestown, Virginia.

Lewis and Clark These two men were given the task to create maps, take notes of discovered plants, animals and many other important details in the western part of the United States where no English man has ever been. Meriwether Lewis and Clark headed out to find the Pacific.

To reach the North American mainland they had to hop from island to island, avoiding Spanish ships and negotiating with native Caribs for supplies. They had to make it again until the crew could sail off. They also had to shoot down a ferocious bear that almost took out three very important crew members.

Fishing was one of their main food supplies. Many times they would not even get a complete dinner. Life on the deck of an English ship was very complicated and difficult in many situations.
