Presentation transcript:

Fifth Grade Newsletter Quinones/Lupton October 16-20, 2017 Math Social Studies Language Arts Your child will be completing his/her study of Unit 2, adding and subtracting with decimal numbers. Your child has problems in his/her Math journal like those that will be on the test. The test will be Thursday, Oct. 19th. Homework this week is great practice for the test as well. Please encourage your child to practice the problems and be familiar with the types of word problems on the test. Your child will learn about World War I and Post World War I. This week’s focus will be the reasons the United States became involved in the war. Your child will learn about the sinking of the Lusitania and the concerns over safety of U.S. ships. Students will receive a study guide to help him/her prepare for this unit test on Monday, Oct. 23rd. The test will be given on November 3rd. Your child will finish Steal Away Home and take the comprehension test on chapters 15-31 on Tuesday. Your child will analyze multiple accounts of the same event or topic, noting similarities and differences in the point of view they represented. Science Your child will focus on the study of correlative conjunctions this week in Grammar. Correlative conjunctions are not single words. They work in pairs. There are five pairs of correlative conjunctions: both/and, whether/or, neither/nor, either/or, and not only/but also. EX. We will go to the movies either today or tomorrow night. Schedule Your child will be continuing his/her study of Earth Science. He/she will be learning about how surface features are created by constructive or destructive forces. He/she will receive a study guide this week to begin studying the vocabulary. Mon., Oct. 16th-Report cards on Infinite campus. Mon., Oct. 23rd - Picture Make-up Day. Tues., Oct. 24th-4-H meeting Fri.
