Week of October 15, 2018 What we are studying…….. Reading~ Dr. Seuss (Focus Skill: Biography) Language~ Punctuation Marks ( Question Marks and Periods); Nouns (Plural and Singular) Writing~ Informative/explanatory (How to) Math~ Place Value (tens and ones); Fact Families Science ~ Sound & Light Word Study Words Students will be tested Friday and will have to write each word correctly. These are some examples of word patterns that will be used. The words on this list will not necessarily be the ones tested, but they will follow this spelling pattern. WEEK 10~ short /e/ sound Word families -en, -ed, -eg, -em,-ell bed Ted red fed beg peg leg Meg gem them hem stem Ben men ten hen tell fell bell sell Sight Words Students will be tested Friday. Students will have to say each word instantly, without sounding them out. They will not have to write them 1. end 2. here 3. large 4. because 5. even 6. another 7. must 8. such 9. turn 10. does Homework Daily: Read, or have someone read to you for 10 – 15 minutes. (AR) Monday: Math Sheet and Word Work sheet Tuesday: Math Sheet and Word Work sheet Wednesday: Family Night (No Homework) Thursday: Math Sheet and Study Word Work list & sight words for test tomorrow. Ice Cream on Tuesday $1.00 Please send money only on Tuesday& put it in the laminated envelope in the homework folder. Specials SD5 – Tuesday (See Calendar) SD1 – Wednesday (See Calendar) SD2 – Thursday (See Calendar) SD3 Friday (See Calendar) SD4– Monday (See Calendar) Oct. 22nd *Please wear gym shoes on the day your child has PE. Our specials time is 12:10-12:55 1st Grade Field Trip We will be going to Honey Ridge Plantation/Farms on Thursday, Nov. 1st. We sent home a permission form last week. Please fill it out with the $5 admission fee and return it to school. We CANNOT take parent’s admission fee. Parents may pay Honey Ridge Farms when they arrive the morning of the field trip! Siblings are not allowed on field trips. 4H Any student wishing to show livestock at the “elementary age” can do so through 4H. Please contact the 4H office or Amanda Kessler at ECMS. Red Ribbon Week Oct Notes from the Teacher… Halloween Goody Bags You may send in small treats, prizes, and candy. We will be stuffing goody bags to send home on Halloween with your child. Please see the “inside jacket/coat/sweatshirt” uniform policy in the student handbook. Please send lunch money and all other monies in the envelope in your child’s money pouch inside the homework notebook. You may also sign up online at to pay for your child’s school meals. Please send all notes, signed forms, etc. in this notebook. We do not check book bags for notes or money.
