The 9 Themes of World History

The Problem History can be so complicated! With all the different historical events that we’ll be studying this year, wouldn’t it be nice to be able to organize those events into BIG ideas?

The Solution That’s where themes can help. Themes are not as detailed as historical events, but help understand history by looking at basic ideas that all historical events have in common.

Examples of Themes

Continuity and Change

Geography and History

Political and Social Systems

Religions and Value Systems

Economics and Technology

Diversity

Global Interaction

Impact of the Individual

Art and Literature

Conclusions What do you think? Remember themes help us simplify and organize all the historical events that we’ll be studying this year. If you review this presentation throughout the year, it will help you remember the 9 Themes of World History.
