IN THE DIOCESE OF BRANDON FAIR SHARE IN THE DIOCESE OF BRANDON

Where Does it Go? $822,140 Fair Share collected in the five – year period: 2012 – 2016 $491,810 was forwarded to The Anglican Church of Canada as our “Proportional Giving” $330,325 remaining: an average of $66,065 annual for use by the diocese $1,243,330 Fair Share requested in that period 66% of requested Fair Share was received.

What Does It Do? To National Church as our “Proportional Giving” Pays Bishop’s salary, benefits, housing, travel expenses within the diocese, hospitality, office expenses, etc. Pays for the synod office support staff salaries and benefits Pays for retired clergy benefits Pays for executive meetings and travel for executive members to attend Pays for Archdeacon & regional dean travel expenses Pays for other diocesan initiatives: lay reader training, etc.

Comparing Fair Share with “Proportional Giving” to the National Church

Comparing Fair Share with “Proportional Giving” to the National Church

How is it Calculated? Envelope offerings, open offerings, donations from church organizations and fundraising for undesignated purposes are subject to Fair Share The National Church includes INVESTMENT income when calculating our proportional giving; the diocese DOES NOT include this The Diocese asks for 18.5% of giving to be sent as Fair Share The National Church asks for 26% of income which includes our income from Fair Share

How do we determine how much we need? Annual Expense budget is set (E) Income from investments and other sources is projected (I) The balance represents the Fair Share need (FS) E – I = FS What happens when Fair Share is not met? Shortfalls in Fair Share force extra withdrawals from investments Therefore, Investment capital is eroded Result: Future investment income potential is reduced by erosion of capital Fair Share Ask % will increase, further impinging on other parishes finances

Diocesan Income Sources & Expenses + $204,000 Council of The North grant - $204,000 Northern Ministry Expense: First nations clergy salaries, Northern travel, Henry Budd College expenses = $0 + $ Fair Share + $ Other Gifts + $ Investment Withdrawals - $ Diocesan expenses = Surplus/Deficit

What haven’t I covered yet that is important to you?

How do you feel about Fair Share?
