Year 10 Summer Literacy Project

Hi Year 10. Below is a list of suggested activities for you to complete over the summer holiday in preparation for Year 11. Try some of them or all of them – but completing them would get you off to a flying start at the beginning of Year 11. When you come back, be prepared to tell your teacher which activities you have completed. Remember to keep evidence of your work to show your teacher at the start of term.  Have a good holiday!

Reading Spark Notes http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/micemen/   Follow this link to find commentaries and activities on ‘Of Mice and Men’. Try writing down ten main points you would like to remember and then repeating them to someone at home.

Reading Read a poem from a book or the Internet and talk to a member of your family about it. Read a short story or novel and talk to a member of your family about it. Read a newspaper article and identify GAP: genre, audience and purpose.

Reading http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/english_literature/ Why not try annotating your anthologies or attempt some of the quizzes?

Writing CGP GCSE English Revision Guides – lots of good tips for success in the exams. Get one of these guides and try to do a few exercises per week. Read a leaflet or flyer which is delivered through your door and identify GAP. Also try to jot down notes on the use of colour, layout and language.

Writing http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/english/   http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/english/ Why not attempt some of the quizzes?

Writing Take a look at The Apostrophe Protection Society website and find your five favourite examples of incorrect use of the apostrophe. How would you correct the errors? You will also find the rules for using apostrophes accurately. http://www.apostrophe.org.uk/
