Energy Transformations PS9.15
Energy is found in different forms Kinetic energy types Electrical – the movement of electrons(electricity) Light energy – electromagnetic energy that travels in transverse waves. Heat energy – the vibration and movement of the atoms and molecules in a substance
More kinetic energy types Mechanical energy – the movement of objects from one place to another. Sound – the movement in longitudinal waves. Caused by vibrations.
Potential energy types Chemical energy – energy stored in bonds of atoms and molecules. Propane, natural gas, and petroleum are examples. Elastic energy – energy stored in objects. A compressed spring or a stretched rubber band are examples.
More potential energy types Nuclear energy – energy stored in the nucleus of an atom. Energy is given off by either nuclear fusion or nuclear fission. Gravitational energy – energy of position. Hydropower is an example.
