1 Forms of Energy!

2 Forms of Energy!

3 Energy can be split into two types:
Potential Energy: Kinetic Energy: Each type of energy comes in many forms!

4 under the right circumstances
POTENTIAL ENERGY work that could happen under the right circumstances gravitational chemical nuclear potential

5 Nuclear Energy stored in the nucleus of an atom.
Released by nuclear fission (in nuclear power plants) Or Nuclear fusion (on stars, like our sun)

6 Chemical Energy released by a chemical reaction.
All fuels have chemical energy (coal, gas, food, wood, batteries etc) This energy can be released when molecules and atoms rearrange themselves in chemical reactions.

7 Gravitational Potential
Energy from an object’s position above the ground. (An object that can fall.) The further the object is from the ground, the more gravitational energy it has.

14 work that’s being done (movement)
KINECTIC ENERGY work that’s being done (movement) ( electric sound electromagnetic moving thermal mechanical

15 Thermal (Heat) Particles speeding up.
When particles speed up, they feel hot. When particles slow down, they feel cold. Sometimes we specifically try to generate heat (fires, ovens and hairdryers). Sometimes we do other things and energy escapes as heat. (Heat from a car engine running or heat off a computer.)

16 Electrical Energy from moving electrons.
Also known as electricity. Electricity is the movement of electrons, usually from negatively charged objects to positively charged objects.

17 Sound Energy that moves as sound waves.
Sounds are compressions of air, which are known as longitudinal waves. They are also known as compression waves.

18 Light (Electromagnetic)
Energy that moves as electromagnetic waves. Any form of light is electromagnetic energy. Most likely travels in transverse waves. Also known as radiant energy.

19 The energy of moving objects.
Moving Mechanical The energy of moving objects. The movement of the object is the source of the energy.
