Bell Ringer What is genocide? Do you think that the world would ever allow something like the Holocaust to happen again?

Genocide: UN Definition Targeted groups: national, ethnic, racial or religious group Prohibited actions: Killing group members causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions calculated to bring about its physical destruction Imposing measures intended to prevent births Forcibly transferring children of one group to another

First time term “genocide” was used Holocaust First time term “genocide” was used Approximately 6 million Jewish people were systematically murdered, up to 5 million from other groups
