5. What is the Holocaust?
The Holocaust was the systematic, bureaucratic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of approximately six million Jews by the Nazi regime and its collaborators.
"Holocaust" is a word of Greek origin meaning "sacrifice by fire."

b. Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;

-1920 Nazi Party platform states that Jews cannot be German citizens or belong to the nation.

1933: Adolf Hitler comes to power and immediately seeks to limit political opponents
Hitler outlawed all other political parties, including the socialist party by July 1933
Hitler defines German citizenship as Aryan only
1935- Jews are excluded from public life

3. Dehumanization- target group members are compared to animals; hate propaganda becomes intense and villifies the group/ incites to violence
