A Mighty Hand: Capitalising on Corporate to Mobilise Resource for You. Edwin Wanyonyi KWS & Kenya Wildlife Service Fund Assistant Director & Head of Resource Mobilisation 6th December 2012

Source: A guide for project M&E: IFAD

Resource Mobilisation RM and Fundraising are used interchangeably

Fundraising can be defined as: the right person properly asking the right prospect for the right amount at the right time on behalf of the right organization

Life is an echo -- what you send out comes back Fundraising Quotes Life is an echo -- what you send out comes back Fundraising requires both optimism and realism. Without optimism few or no gift solicitation efforts would be made. Without the second, few if any would succeed. When we recognize that a better word for Fundraising is “friend raising,” we open limitless doors to creativity in support of our causes. The deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated. Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a gift and not giving it.

Ways to Fundraise What are some ways in which you might raise funds for your organization?

Everyone has a role to play! Participation Everyone has a role to play!

People “Donors don't give to institutions. They invest in ideas and people in whom they believe.”

Plan 1. Develop your fundraising goals 2. Write down your fundraising plan 3. Estimate the cost of your fundraising program 4. Develop a timeline for your plan 5. Identify funding sources 6. Evaluate your plan during the year

What other “P’s” of fundraising can you think of?

Engaging Coporates Make a good impression when you meet the donor face to face (aim to build a relationship). You do this by:- Being well prepared Being relaxed Explain your work clearly for a genuine conversation to take place.

To ask is no sin, to be refused is no calamity ASANTE SANA!
