Heat and the Transfer of Energy

Temperature vs. Heat Temperature is a measure of the average kinetic energy. Heat is the transfer of energy from one object to another due to a difference in temperature.

Heat Always flows from a warmer temperature to a cooler temperature. The transfer of heat will stop once temperatures have equalized.

Energy can be transferred in 3 ways: Conduction – transfer of energy through contact Convection – transfer of energy by the flow of material Radiation – transfer of energy in waves or rays

Conduction Conductors are materials that transfer energy easily Insulators are materials that are not good conductors, but are used to trap energy

Convection

Radiation
