NIKE JUST DO IT

HOW THEY GOT FAMOUS The famous Nike Swoosh sign is globally known thanks to all the famous athletes that wear and support Nike. Tiger Woods, Lebron James, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Andre Agassi, Maria Sharapova, Venus and Serena Williams and many more very famous athletes have gotten Nike endorsements.

SWOOSH HISTORY The design was created in 1971 by a college student at Portland State University, Carolyn Davidson. While working for Phil Knight (founder of Nike) she was getting paid $2 an hour. Davidson ended up getting paid $35 for creating one of the most famous symbols in history.

NIKE MARKETING Nike is looking to cut 4% of work force(1,400 jobs) to save money in these tough economic times. Nike spent $255-$260 million on sponsorships alone last year. To cut back Nike is looking to take away some sponsorships from the smaller teams but keep their big name athletes.

NIKE PRODUCTION Workers in China get paid $1.75 per day to work for Nike. Workers in Vietnam make a lowly $1.60 per day. A pair of $100 dollar shoes are made for $5. Because of this, Phil Knight (owner) is the sixth richest man in America. He is worth around $5 billion dollars.

SAME BANG, LESS BUCK Nike has found a way to get their advertisements out to the public without spending as much money, YouTube. By using YouTube Nike can keep their high priced superstar athletes and not spend as much on television ads.

NIKE FACTS Nike is the Greek goddess of victory. She was a very fast runner and swift flyer. It is the sign of a positive mark. Nike started out with being just a shoe company but now has blossomed into a huge clothing brand.
