Printmaking Accordion book

Agenda Go over what we did last time Go over what we are doing this week Take notes on how to make an accordion book Make an accordion book Put our favorite prints into the accordion book.

Last time Last time we finished our 3 layer mono prints The first layer had a transition of colors The second layer had a solid color with patterns removed from it. The last layer had a black or white painting added to it. If you were not here last time you will need to set up time during study hall to get it done.

Next two time Next time and the time after we are going to make paper. What you will need Bring stuff you want to turn into paper Flowers, leaves, old papers, old homework assignments, mail, seaweed, sawdust, etc. All I will have is newspaper so if you want yours to be anything unique than bring the supplies next time. We will work on it for two class periods and let it dry over the break.

How to make an Accordion book An accordion book is a book where you can use the front and the back to write or put prints on. We are going to put one of each of our prints into this book. You may have to trip some of them to make it work.

Step 1 Accordion your paper so it is bent back and forth like a W every 5 inches.

Step 2 Take your two pieces of 5”x5” cardboard and your two pieces of 6”x6” scrapbook paper Glue the cardboard into the center of the paper

Step 3 Cut the corners of your scrapbook paper as shown below.

Step 4 Fold down the flaps of paper and glue them into place.

Step 5 Glue your cover to each end of the accordion paper. Note: If you would like more pages in your accordion book use longer paper or make additional accordion papers and glue them together.

Step 6 Add your favorite prints to your accordion book.

Studio Time Finish your accordion book Pick your favorite prints and cut to fit them into your accordion book. If you have empty pages because you don’t have as many prints to put into it than you will fill those pages talking about what you could do in the future to make your prints better. This is due at the end of class today.
