Bridgnorth : Using Google Earth Task – To create an annotated map to show the reasons why Bridgnorth was selected as a site for a settlement To create a second map to show the services and land uses that exist in Bridgnorth today

Bridgnorth Google maps Learning objective: To create an annotated map to show the reasons why Bridgnorth was selected as a site for a settlement. KEY VOCABULARY Site = the place where the settlement is. Siting factors = the reasons why the site was chosen for a settlement Annotated = the label will tell you what it is and give extra information such as REASONS or NAMED EXAMPLES

Each map must have.... (assessment criteria) A title A learning objective Clear labels in bright coloured font so it is easy to read Accurate arrows pointing to the place being described. Detailed text boxes that describe and explain and show you have applied your knowledge

Modelling the answer : An example to show you how to annotate your map The River Severn provides water for drinking, washing and cooking. The river was also used for trade as it if deep enough for boats and fishing for food supply WHY IS THIS A GOOD ANNOTATION? Notice how I have used an arrow to point to the advantage of the site. I have highlighted the key advantage in RED but also named it. The explanation of the advantage is given in YELLOW and I have tried to give more than one reason.

Bridgnorth : Google Earth Map 2 Learning objective– To create a map to show the services and main land uses in Bridgnorth today. KEY VOCABULARY SERVICES – things that people use e.g. Schools LAND USE – how the land is being used e.g. housing

Modelling the answer : An example to show you how to annotate your map You can add the symbols on your map by clicking in the layers section on the left side of the google earth screen. For restaurants and public houses add EXTRAS Industrial estate shown by the large buildings. You can look at Google maps and find the name of the industrial estate OR suggest a reason why this type of land use is found here You will need to zoom in on the map to see what the land uses are. Look for the visual clues e.g. a car park outside a supermarket

SELF ASSESSMENT Check the assessment criteria Have you made sure that you have completed all elements of the work? A title A learning objective Clear labels in bright coloured font so it is easy to read Accurate arrows pointing to the place being described. Detailed text boxes that describe and explain and show you have applied your knowledge

Add the next side to the end of your powerpoint presentation and fill it in
