Glogster Lesson Plan www.edu.glogster.com Grade Level: 5 Subject: Reading/Comprehension Prepared by: Heidi Ferry NETS: Creativity and Innovation   *Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology. Blooms Taxonomy: *creating State Standard: 1.1 5 1.3 5A 1.1. Reading Independently Students apply a wide range of strategies. 1.3 Reading Analyzing and Interpreting Literature Overview and Purpose: The long term purpose will be to add Glogster as another tool students can choose from when working at the independent computer station and to be able to use visual representation to express their comprehension of independent reading books. Materials: Promethean Board novel Laptop cart Steps: Using the promethean board students will be shown in whole group how to log onto Glogster and how to navigate around the site. Students will be broken into their groups. Students in the Comprehension group will each get a laptop off the cart, boot it up and log onto www.edu.glogster.com . Students chose from a variety of graphics different items that they think displays a scene, connection, character, setting etc. After students are completed their Glog they will save it and on the following Friday explain to the class their Glog. Outcome: Students enjoyed this activity easy assessment of student understanding. Great way of sharing ideas for student not as engaged in the book.

Prepared by: Heidi Ferry NETS: Communicate and Colaborate   Blooms Taxonomy: Understand Apply State Standard: Reading Independently 1.1C-vocabualry 1.1E-fluecny Overview and Purpose: To improve reading fluency and increase vocabulary development using song lyrics. Materials: Promethean board Copies of song lyrics viva la vida by ColdPlay Youtube video of student choir from PS22 in New York singing Cold Plays Viva La Vida: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_tcE4rWovI Webpage: http://ps22chorus.blogspot.com/ Steps: Using the promethean board students will be shown in whole group the above video. Students will be given copies of the song lyrics to follow along while they view the video several times. Student will be permitted to circle words/ highlight phrases. Various vocabulary words will be discussed along with phrases of the song. Students will practice choral reading as whole class and then individual tables (table off).:) Outcome: Students loved this activity!! We checked out other songs by this choir. We have emailed the choir director (no response yet) and my goal is to possibly Skype with them. Urban vs Rural
