Raspberry Pi Kit - Words of caution! When handling sensitive pieces of equipment, such as the screens and the Raspberry Pi’s, please touch them from the edges so that you do not damage the items with static electricity. Make sure that when you are operating the Raspberry Pi that you do not touch the parts on the board while it is running, that would also be bad. Every four students should have a box flat. Please do not fiddle with anything in your kit quite yet. Also, when you entered, you should also have grabbed two keyboards and two mice for your team. If you do not have keyboards and mice, please get two of each for each team now.

Inside the Box Flat Inside the box flat, you should have: Two Raspberry Pi 3’s Two Screens Two Screen Power Supplies Four MicroUSB cables A USB Hub (optional) Two HDMI Cables Two Ethernet Cables Two USB Power Adapters A box of components (don’t open this yet, put it aside) Be very delicate with all exposed items, and touch the Raspberry Pi from it’s edges. Please check that you have all of these items. If you are missing some items, please raise your hand. Hold up the items while you say what they are (I will add photos too)

Inside the Box of Components In your box of components are the following: Three Breadboards 16 Male to Female Wires (with square ends) 28 Male to Male Wires (with round ends) Two MicroSD cards with Raspbian installed Two buttons Two 10K Ohm resistors Ten 220 Ohm resistors 7 (or more) Light Emitting Diodes (or LED’s) Please treat the items with care. Please check that you have all of these items. If you are missing some items, please raise your hand Again, hold up the items (I will add photos later)

Connecting all of the components! Now for the fun part! We’re going to go through these instructions step-by step. Remove the cables from the box. Split all items not in the components box evenly. Connect the HDMI cable to the monitor and the other end to the Raspberry Pi. Connect the mouse and keyboard to the USB ports on the Raspberry Pi. Connect the ethernet cable to the switch at your table, and then to your Raspberry Pi. Open the components box, and take out the two MicroSD cards, and carefully place them in the MicroSD slots in the bottom of the Raspberry Pi. Be VERY delicate with them. The top of the SD card should face down to the table. Connect the Screen Power Cable to the power strip at the center of your table Connect the Raspberry Pi’s MicroUSB cable to the USB Power Supply, and plug the USB power supply into the power strip at the center of your table. Please wait about 30 seconds for your Raspberry Pi to boot up. If it does not boot, please raise your hand now, and someone will come over and help you fix the problem.
