September 2014 doc.: IEEE 802.11-14/1234r0 September 2014 Abstract This contribution discusses the need for well defined requirements as part of the approved 802.11 TGax Selection Procedure (11-14/0938r04). We contend that without meaningful and clearly defined requirements it is not possible to have an open and fair standards development process that adheres to the agreed Selection Procedure. TGac R2 – The TGac amendment shall provide at least a mode of operation capable of achieving a maximum Single-Station throughput of more than 500 Mbps as measured at the MAC data service access point (SAP), utilizing no more than 80 MHz of channel bandwidth in 5GHz band. Example Requirement R1 Average Throughput September 2014 Example Requirement R1 Average Throughput The 802.11ax amendment shall provide at least one mode of operation capable of achieving at least four times improvement in the average throughput per station, compared to the existing IEEE 802.11 standard and its amendments in the following scenarios: Scenario 3 (indoor small BSS hotspot) Baseline: 100% non-11ax APs and 100% non-11ax STAs. 11ax: 100% 11ax APs and 50% 11ax STAs. Proposed Requirement R2 Spectral frequency reuse September 2014 Proposed Requirement R2 Spectral frequency reuse The 802.11ax amendment shall provide a mechanism to improve by at least 10% the spectral frequency reuse in efficiency in 20 MHz and larger frequency channels in the following scenarios: Scenario 2 (enterprise) Baseline: 100% non-11ax APs and 100% non-11ax STAs. 11ax:100% 11ax APs and 50% 11ax STAs. September 2014 Conclusion Without agreed well defined requirements there is no criteria to judge the merit of the technical contributions. We have provided a set of reasonable meaningful functional requirements in 11-14/xxxxr1 Without criteria to judge the technical merit of contributions we do not see how the current 802.11ax process will be able to move forward in an open and fair manner.
